Hi All, Hope You Are Keeping Well? Does Anyone Know Of A Dr In Gauteng Who Specialiazes In Long Covid? I Am Still Struggling 2 Years On.
Hi Annelize, it depends on your symptoms. I've got information if you have suddenly developed a liver-related disease or suffers from severe fatigue with exceptional liver count.
I'm 18 Months' in - I struggled for the first year to find the right team of Drs and allied professional that can help. It depends a bit on your specific symptoms as well.
I don't know if I'm allowed to share their names on the forum due to POPI legislation.
You are welcome to email me at (Email address can only be seen by the question and answer creators) and I will see if I can help with names of practitioners with special interest in Long Covid.
Keep well
Stephan
I am based in Cape Town. I started the same as you have mentioned above. Work started complaining. I had to make more notes not to forget. Then my children started to point out something is wrong. By September 2022 I could hardly remember my passwords and was admitted. I returned to work and in January I was admitted again. Since then I have been placed on temporary disability. Last month I was admitted for 2 weeks to hospital with swine flu. in the past months i have had so much blood tests and procedures. I have problems with my colon and was told I have food allergies. So no more Wheat, Soy or nuts. Eating is now more homework. I also have to catharize as I can not empty my bladder. I am in so much pain. I have had a block injection in my spine from L1 all the way down. The list is endless. Yesterday I saw a Long Covid Doctor!!!! Google him! Dr Uvistra Naidoo in Camps Bay. I have to see him again tomorrow and for the first time after so many doctors I finally found one to help. GOOD luck.
WE need to spread the news about long covid and make more people aware as in South Africa nothing is being done. We need to speak up!
I contracted COVID in 2020 January, it's now 4th July 2023. I've finally started feeling better after 3½yrs (knock on wood). I recently read a comment from a woman who had also been ill for quite some time. She mentioned that antibiotics such as Doxycycline that treat both gram+/- germs seemed to be beneficial.
I have taken 3or4 prescriptions of Doxy, for other reasons than COVID. The 1st round of antibiotics I didn't notice any changes. 2nd round I actually felt better from the reason for the antibiotics. 3rd & 4th I asked the Dr to prescribe. When I finished with #4 prescription I definitely feel better.
I actually have enough energy to do some housecleaning, laundry from washing to getting it hung up/folded put away, some yard work done.
To me these little accomplishments are exciting. I still have days or times that I feel like garbage, but those bad points are less & less.
I pray that you can get better and comfortable in your life. I also still dealing with covid issues for 2 years. It's so hard to stay positive with the life we are dealt with covid. But .....God is in control and he's going to work it out.💯❤
